Infrastructure Nightmares

I need to give you a little background on Perryville so this will be more understandable. This prison was built in the early
Explaining the Shower Picture
This is an accurate sketch of a real shower in “B” yard, Santa Cruz unit. Do you see the loose wires hanging in the lower door jamb? I was told they were “live” because this shower light is still on. I won’t test this theory! I’ve tried to portray all the standing water in front of those wires. All the shower units have standing water because the drains are all plugged.
Standing water = black mold we see everywhere
When inmates complained about the condition of this shower, they just took off the door and left it open. In the shower next to this one (not pictured) is the same filth.
The regulators (hot and cold) will not engage so moving the handle from Hot to Cold does nothing. The temperature the DOC sets is what you get. In the winter the water is cold and in the summer, it’s hot. The water pressure would increase dramatically if they would soak the shower heads in Lime-aWay to remove 50 years of accumulated minerals.
Would COIII Jeminez please move into C bay?
(letter from an inmate on Carlos) “Today we had the joy of having COIII Jeminez for the morning shift on C bay.
Our bay is plagued with the three terrorists from hell, CO’s PEARCH, SOTO, and LUCID. We are chronically sleep-deprived and depressed from these Three Amigos.
What a wonderful change it was to have a pleasant person be our guard from 6am to 2pm!
If only DW Revere would read this letter, and relieve our suffering.”
Letters: The Tyrants of Carlos
(Many letters from “C” bay, San Carlos) “These are the tyrants of C bay: Correctional Officers, PEARCH, SOTO, and LUCID. These pint-sized terrorists make our life miserable.
The DOC puts these women guards on C bay because it’s closest to the gate, and a female must do the pat-downs. Each one of these guards seems intent on writing a bunch of tickets for normal bodily functions.
CO Pearch comes in mad, stays mad, and leaves even madder. The chip on her shoulder is the size of Texas. The women in C bay dread Sundays because that’s the day she comes in. At exactly 7:30am, she whips out her clipboard and leaves tickets on beds for the slightest infraction. At 15 minutes to count (10:45am) she swoops into bathrooms to write tickets for ” not being in your bed for count”. Most ladies want to relieve themselves just prior to count, so they can hold it for a whole hour. And then Pearch will not announce when count is clear, she waits, seeing if anyone dares get up to use the restroom.
CO Lucid is of the opinion that we’re all still in Kindergarten, and we have to raise our hands to go to the bathroom. You can tell she gets a rush from calling each one individually, and watch the rest squirm. “One at a time”, she says with glee.
CO Soto is a weird combo of the above….but always punitive. A Sgt. started a rumor that San Pedro would be opening in a few months. There will be a landside of requests to get off this unit. They won’t have to ask me twice.”
Very little maintenance at PeeVille…… Why
Our officer sources say that every available maintenance person is working on air conditioning. As one officer put it, “We don’t even bother putting in work orders anymore.” We have dozens of letters from inmates describing broken washers and dryers, locks, lights, leaks, and crumbling infrastructure.
