Explaining the Shower Picture
This is an accurate sketch of a real shower in “B” yard, Santa Cruz unit. Do you see the loose wires hanging in the lower door jamb? I was told they were “live” because this shower light is still on. I won’t test this theory! I’ve tried to portray all the standing water in front of those wires. All the shower units have standing water because the drains are all plugged.

When inmates complained about the condition of this shower, they just took off the door and left it open. In the shower next to this one (not pictured) is the same filth.
The regulators (hot and cold) will not engage so moving the handle from Hot to Cold does nothing. The temperature the DOC sets is what you get. In the winter the water is cold and in the summer, it’s hot. The water pressure would increase dramatically if they would soak the shower heads in Lime-aWay to remove 50 years of accumulated minerals.

Officer Pearch was posted on C Bay, Sunday, October 16th. Air Force veteran Quinnett, who was the 1st woman Crew Chief on the F-15 at Luke Air Force Base, has PTSD and various mental and physical issues, but means no one any harm, and keeps to herself.
One of those issues that are contrary to prison policy is compliance with 704’s, which are strict rules on what and how many possessions are allowed. By her own admission, she keeps too many items. “Hoarding” is indicative of mental health problems that we don’t have the space to go into. I just needed to set the scene. I had a front-row seat for this as my cube is only 2 feet away.
Officer Pearch descended on Quinnett with a vengeance, armed with 4 garbage bags. Visibly upset Quinnett could only watch as her possessions were unceremoniously reduced to trash and dragged away. In my opinion, this officer’s vicious attitude toward the inmate was unwarranted. Quinnett was begging for scraps of memories from the officer, only to be gruffly rebuffed. At the end of this debacle… I saw the former Crew Chief on the floor crying and sobbing. I thought, this 66-year-old vet could survive a war, but not the cruelty of a DOC officer.
(Editors postscript: At that time inmate Quinnett was advised of 4 tickets by Pearch. As of 10-20-22, these are unresolved or pending. Ms. Quinnett’s story of officer Pearch’s knocking her off her chair the next day at Property, will be written separately.)
Disciplinary Tickets for Bathroom Visits Only on CARLOS??
Within the last week and a half, I have interviewed inmates from Piestawa and Rosa, AND an officer from there. It appears that this mean-spirited and draconian rule of making women wait an hour or more to urinate is just a Carlos rule.
This is my question to the officer: Q. “Does the staff at Pie and Rosa make the women sit in their cube until count clears completely before they can use the toilet?” A. “No, that’s nonsense. After the Bay officer crosses them off for count they can use the restroom. As a crossover I know that Carlos tries to enforce that, but no other Unit does.”
I asked an inmate recently transferred from Rosa the same question: A. “When I got to Carlos I couldn’t believe the guards let us squirm until count completely clears before I could use the bathroom. The girls on Rosa and Pie have to be healthy and able to work full-time. No watch/swallow pills, no major physical impairments. Here, on C Bay, all I see are cancer patients, the elderly, and wheelchair-bound. How do they make it an hour without peeing?? And they get major tickets for it!!!”
Yes. How indeed.
Why the Proliferation of Lower GI Problems in Perryville?
The women here are experiencing severe constipation, bloating, and nausea. The nurses have said the majority of HNR’s are about these problems. I’m not talking a brief bout with constipation, but months of agony and pain in the lower intestines.
Today a young lady went out on 911 because she was throwing up blood and bile, and had repeatedly begged medical for help.
As we have reported, PeaVille is grossly understaffed for Providers at all Units. Cruz begged a retired provider to return at least temporarily. Johns is on Lumley, Johnson on Carlos, Shields allegedly covering Piestawa and Rosa. Maria and Pedro are closed.
Who’s covering IPC and SNU? Who is the supervising physician for these “providers”? Without providers, there can be no referrals to Specialists, like gastrointestinal specialists.
Women have to get their families to repeatedly call and threaten with lawyers, to get their daughters an endoscopy or test to diagnose the problem. State prison medical personnel wait until a disease is life-threatening before they treat it beyond ” drink more water”.
The medical care here is horrific and with the advent of Naphcare, deadly.
What could be causing these symptoms? The prison food? The prison water? Both? Perhaps when Judge Silver’s expert decides to rid us of ALL for-profit health insurance companies, we will find the answer.
(Coincidentally, I don’t eat prison food or drink tap water, and I’m fine.)
