Infrastructure Nightmares

Introduction to this Topic by the Editor

I need to give you a little background on Perryville so this will be more understandable. This prison was built in the early 1970’s by male inmates, for male inmates. The women didn’t come here until about 1990. AS in all government, the cheapest bid got the job. By all reports, this prison was raised fast, and I suspect, with the minimum of supervision of the builder/inmates. These are eye witness reports from the current women residents.

Explaining the Shower Picture

This is an accurate sketch of a real shower in “B” yard, Santa Cruz unit. Do you see the loose wires hanging in the lower door jamb? I was told they were “live” because this shower light is still on. I won’t test this theory! I’ve tried to portray all the standing water in front of those wires. All the shower units have standing water because the drains are all plugged.

Standing water = black mold we see everywhere

When inmates complained about the condition of this shower, they just took off the door and left it open. In the shower next to this one (not pictured) is the same filth.

The regulators (hot and cold) will not engage so moving the handle from Hot to Cold does nothing. The temperature the DOC sets is what you get. In the winter the water is cold and in the summer, it’s hot. The water pressure would increase dramatically if they would soak the shower heads in Lime-aWay to remove 50 years of accumulated minerals.

No Antibiotics for Pregnant Woman, and No Breast Pads!

No Antibiotics for Pregnant Woman, and No Breast Pads!

A pregnant woman on San Carlos that is in her 8th month, had an infected spider bite on her torso. Her OB/GYN started her on clinical stock antibiotics because the Dr. feared the infection would hurt the baby.

NaphCare told her she would have the pills the next day, but of course, it wasn’t there. She had to wait 6 days!!!

We also learned ALL pregnant women are DENIED breast pads. They left that out of the Dignity for Women Act too.

Crisis Central–NaphCare is a BUST!

Crisis Central–NaphCare is a BUST!

The new, for-profit, health care provider started October 1st. for all Arizona jails and prisons. What a MESS.

Right off the bat, the computers stopped working, and I mean they couldn’t do anything right.

One hundred people were assigned to one (and only) Provider Johnson, just on Monday. He’s only one person folks, he can’t handle 100 patients. When Johnson tried to see as many as he could, the computer shut him down after 5.

In 1963 when computers first came out they could alphabetize….. the NaphCare computer couldn’t even do that, so half of San Carlos was rifling through 20 pages trying to find their name.

Where was the new NaphCare staff??? We saw the usual tired people at Medical, no new faces. By Wednesday, we didn’t even see them…they QUIT. And I mean permanently as in never coming back. Some had served at Perryville for years and years. Where were the mythical buses full of new staff we heard about?

The IT folks for NaphCare announced it would take up to 12 weeks to fix the computers. You think these clowns are going to work on them through the holidays???

I’ve interviewed several old-timers that are still here and they are going to quit soon too. They tell tales of the unbelievable incompetence of NaphCare and its staff.

Who suffers the most? Yes, the inmates. We have seen stories forwarded to the ACLU about medications canceled, appointments and surgeries canceled. Cancer patients going through chemotherapy have had their treatments stopped. Wrong medications that caused seizures are occurring.

It is a never-ending cycle of torture for inmates long neglected by the state of Arizona and their money-grubbing leaders. D.O.C.= Department of Corruption.

CORRECTION: 10-10-22 story on Crisis Central Naphcare

The computer sent Provider Johnson 30 patients in one day not 100. There was 100 people scheduled to be seen by all providers, nurses, dental, x-ray, GYN, etc. Johnson’s computer DID shut him down after 5 patients reportedly.

73-year-old Woman Gets Ticket for Going to the Bathroom

73-year-old Woman Gets Ticket for Going to the Bathroom

Here’s some punitive justice for you…it happened on San Carlos. This elderly woman was new to Carlos, and had seen others going to the bathroom after they were marked off for count. This time though, CO Merkel grabbed her tag, and advised her of a ticket for “disrupting count”.

Someone needs to tell young Merkel that 4 decades from now she won’t be able to hold it either. The male disciplinary officer was not sympathetic either, and gave her 15 LOP (loss of privileges)!! So she was cut off from all contact with her family, not allowed to shop for food, no Secure Pak, no email, and no phone.

FOR WHAT?? For being old.
