Explaining the Shower Picture
This is an accurate sketch of a real shower in “B” yard, Santa Cruz unit. Do you see the loose wires hanging in the lower door jamb? I was told they were “live” because this shower light is still on. I won’t test this theory! I’ve tried to portray all the standing water in front of those wires. All the shower units have standing water because the drains are all plugged.
Standing water = black mold we see everywhere
When inmates complained about the condition of this shower, they just took off the door and left it open. In the shower next to this one (not pictured) is the same filth.
The regulators (hot and cold) will not engage so moving the handle from Hot to Cold does nothing. The temperature the DOC sets is what you get. In the winter the water is cold and in the summer, it’s hot. The water pressure would increase dramatically if they would soak the shower heads in Lime-aWay to remove 50 years of accumulated minerals.

This was the situation with one inmate on Thursday, 7/10/2020
“At 8:14am I asked for a bar of soap. My cell was searched by officer Cvitkovic. He radioed the yard office and they said they were in a meeting ( I bet) and for me to come over at 8:30. I knocked on the door of the yard office at 8:46, Lt. Wilson answered, and said “in the trap”.
I was rewarded with the Motel 6 reject.
I received an email from a friend that serves on the Director’s Task Force for Pandemic Protocols. This is copied from the Director’s office to the Task Force member, “When an inmate requires a bar of soap, they are to go to the yard office and request a bar of soap. AS YOU ARE AWARE, WE NO LONGER NEED THE INMATES HOUSE SEARCHED (caps mine) for items such as toilet paper, hygiene items, or bars of soap. Currently, at San Carlos they have 20 cases that hold 144 single bars of soap.” As of 7-10-20 9:44 am, the Director’s office was made aware of the deviance from official policy.”
UPDATE: “That was fast! Only 45 minutes after notifying the Director, everyone was given a bar of soap. No more intrusive searches for basic hygiene. I’m proud to be the LAST gal searched in San Carlos!”
Death of an Inmate on San Carlos Overnight
[This information was sent to us via email at 9:00 am today. However, it not been delivered as of 6:00 p, (email censorship?) We were finally able to learn this much via telephone call.]
It was a vale of tears this morning on the San Carlos unit. A woman in her 40’s left this life suddenly at around 10:00 to 11:00 pm last night. Cause of death – undetermined.
We won’t print rumor or conjecture, so we’ll wait for the autopsy results, unlike the people interviewed on this.. Staff are consistent on only one thing: it took 45-minutes for a nurse to arrive. The ambulance beat her to the inmate/victim
Better reporters than we are have been alerted to this story. Maybe they can pry some truth out of the DOC. As we are able to confirm more details we will let you know.
One eyewitness reported a prayer circle of at least 200 women this morning at 7:35 am. The soprano singer lead a thrilling rendition of Amazing Grace. That gal was so good she could be singing at the Met.
Where Did the Tent Come From?
We got a call from people that repair roofs on Perryville. They report that there is a military tent on San Pedro that wasn’t there last week. This large tent is supposedly equipped with 2 swamp coolers, and showers are detached, but separate from the main buildings.
Wouldn’t it be dreadful to be in a tent in 108 heat? If you were sick it would be worse. Do you think they might stash the elderly in that thing?
