Explaining the Shower Picture
This is an accurate sketch of a real shower in “B” yard, Santa Cruz unit. Do you see the loose wires hanging in the lower door jamb? I was told they were “live” because this shower light is still on. I won’t test this theory! I’ve tried to portray all the standing water in front of those wires. All the shower units have standing water because the drains are all plugged.

When inmates complained about the condition of this shower, they just took off the door and left it open. In the shower next to this one (not pictured) is the same filth.
The regulators (hot and cold) will not engage so moving the handle from Hot to Cold does nothing. The temperature the DOC sets is what you get. In the winter the water is cold and in the summer, it’s hot. The water pressure would increase dramatically if they would soak the shower heads in Lime-aWay to remove 50 years of accumulated minerals.
Is DOC Bipolar?
Santa Maria unit has had conflicting news about its fate for months now. A prison runs on rumors, but all reports point to an entity that has no clue about what’s going on.
Recently, in one day, there were 3 different announcements regarding the closing of Maria and the transfer of inmates. Central Office had decided to close down Maria in a desperate attempt to save staff.
Of course, they make these decisions without working out any details. How is the DMV going to run with all its workers across the street on Cruz? They haven’t moved closed custody from Cruz to make room for the Marian’s. Matter cannot occupy the same place at the same time.
Question: If you put all the personnel at Central Office together, would the combined education level reach the 6th grade? Did they factor in two extra hours a day for travel of DMV workers? Because they “cross the street”, all workers would have to be chained, and fully stripped out coming and going to work.
Yep, your tax dollars are going to this fiasco.
DOC BANS COLORING BOOKS!
Really? I almost don’t know what to say about this one. Of course, we did due diligence trying to find an answer from the prison as to WHY. And we received the usual reply….silence, or shrug, or I dunno.
Coloring is a well-known stress reliever, many inmates come to the art department just to do that. We think the DOC is intrinsically mean and anything the inmates enjoy is strictly forbidden. (We bet Putin bans coloring books in Russia…. the same mind think)
Your Blood Never Lies
I have always been skeptical of how much “stress” affects one’s health. Well, I’m a believer now. I have empirical evidence of my own blood lab work.
If you read the articles about how bad Lumley Unit treats its residents, you can understand the major STRESS the women are subjected to. I lived, (survived) 13 months on Taliban Bendel’s Lumley. It was sincerely the worst 13 months of my life. Two blood tests were performed during that period.
I recently compared that to the blood tests taken after I was liberated and transferred to Maria Unit. You’d think they were drawn from two different people! I used the Merck manual and a Lab Corp interpretation manual, to contrast and compare the results. Roughly 60% of the scores on the Lumley tests were either too low or high and not in the normal range. In ALL of the scores that were out, the manuals said stress was a factor. My lab work done on Maria showed a healthy person with blood scores all in the normal range!
Yep, I’m a believer.
